TOMAS JONSSON APPEARS ON WJXT'S RIVER CITY LIVE
Last year’s Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition Winner, Tomas Jonsson appeared last Friday morning on a segment of River City Live hosted by Rance Adams. Tomas returned to Jacksonville to perform with his Trio from Dallas, TX, at Breezy Jazz House in San Marco. When asked about his experience in the Piano Competition, Tomas explained, “It was a challenge in many ways, being in a different city, competing with the other fabulous pianists before a packed house at the Florida Theater.” Jonsson performed Friday night with an intimate show of both solo and trio renditions of classic jazz standards and original compositions.

Performing Thursday night at the Florida Theater, were five finalists for the coveted Jazz Piano Competition. The winner takes home $5,000 and performed a live set on the Met Park Stage Saturday afternoon. This year’s winner was Ross Margitza, originally from Detroit, but now resides in Austin, TX.

Tuesday night live jazz continues in the city at the Blue Jay Listening Room, at the corner of 25th Ave South and 3rd Street, in the Costa Verde Plaza, Jax Beach. Cost is $10 and show begins at 7:00 pm. Website: Blue Jay Listening Room
